Polished, untreated or brushed brass?

Brass is a material that has become increasingly popular the last few years, and there are many different designs when it comes to brass. We will explain the differences between polished brass, untreated brass and brushed brass as well as what you need to keep in mind when choosing the materials for brass handles and knobs.

Brass - the beautiful, golden material

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, which both are easy to work with as well as being durable. Brass is a traditional material that has been around for a long time, and is suitable for classic shapes but also the structured and modern shapes. We have a wide selection of knobs and handles in solid brass. In order to be able to work with new and modern shapes, we also have handles in aluminium and zinc, coated in various brass finishes.

Brushed brass

Brushed brass has become increasingly popular recently. This finish has a solid colour with streaks of metal shavings that have gone over the material to give it the patina appearance without also creating a more raw finish. Handles and knobs in brushed brass are available in solid brass, aluminium and zinc.

Polished brass

Polished brass means that the handle is lacquered, which protects the appearance over time. Polished brass has a typically goldish tone and is easy to look after. The lacquered finish makes sure that the handle does not oxidize and darken, but instead keeps its shine.
Handles and knobs in polished brass are available in solid brass and zinc.

Untreated brass

Untreated brass has a finish that gives a matte and robust impression, where one has kept the finish from the manufacturing process. Untreated brass reveals the true colour of the brass and allows the metal to patinate. The patination is a natural reaction that happens due to the moisture of the air and oxygen, and protects the metal as well as prolongs its life. Handles and knobs in untreated brass are patinated with time and only get more and more beautiful. These products are made from solid brass.

Matte brass

Our knobs and handles in matte brass are made of solid brass with an unfinished surface. The handle has a raw surface, directly from the molding process. The surface does not get treated, in order for it to be patinated with time.

Polished untreated brass

Polished untreated brass means that the surface is able to oxidize in order to receive a living surface that darkens over time. The patination is a natural reaction that happens due to the moisture in the air and oxygen and it protects the metal as well as prolongs its life time. Handles in polished and untreated brass lack a protective coat, and are made of solid brass. It is difficult to see the difference in the polished brass and the polished and untreated brass, the difference is first visible after using it and with time, the handle in polished and untreated brass, will patinate.

Instructions for care

Do you want to get rid of stains or fingerprints on the handles?
Use a lightly moistened cloth. Avoid cleaning products since they could contain chemicals which affect the surface negatively.
