Leather handles - some extra luxury!
Our leather handles and leather knobs from Beslag Design are made from a sustainable and naturally tanned leather from Tärnsjö Tannery, which only gets more beautiful over time. Tärnsjö Tannery produces tannic acid from oak leaves in the same way that our ancestors did it, since it creates the best result. Producing leather in an environmentally friendly way is a lot more time consuming than normal tanning. But what does it matter that the process takes longer, when the purpose is to get the best quality possible? Tärnsjö Tannery produces unique leather in the best quality, in order to ensure that their leather has a natural surface that ages beautifully and gets patinated over time.General tips
Leather is a natural material. With the correct execution, highest quality material and a touch of maintenance, what you get is a product that lasts for a long time and is patinated with dignity..1. Exposure in direct sunlight can fade dark colours, and make light colours darker.
2. Warm and dry air can dry the leather out if it is not impregnated consistently.
3. Certain cleaning products and chemicals can lead to discoloration and can ruin the surface of the leather.
4. If too much water is used on the leather, it changes colour.
Impregnation and cleaning
We recommend that when cleaning the leather, use a moist and properly rung out cloth. After you have dried the leather product, it is important to allow the leather to dry fully before applying any form of impregnation. There are many different types of impregnation, and horse riding stores, who often have most products for leather care, can help you in recommending what type of impregnation you should use to preserve the colour and softness of the leather.Leather from Tärnsjö Tannery
Since 1873, Tärnsjö Tannery has been tanning the leather without using any animal products, which is a very well tested method. The industrialization has made it possible to offer leather at lower prices, and many tannery’s have chosen that direction. But Tärnsjö Tannery has chosen to not do so, since the esthetics of tanning leather without the use of animal products is unparalleled and the visible patina after an extended time of using the product, can not be produced in any other way. It is also the only way to produce leather of the best quality whilst at the same time care for our environment. Our ancestors within tanning, used tannic acid made from oak bark. Tärnsjö Tannery makes tannic acid in the same way since it creates the best result. Producing leather in an environmentally friendly way is a lot more time consuming than normal tanning. Tärnsjö Tannery’s leather is therefore unique.
Tärnsjö Tannery’s leather is free from chromium and their leather tanned from non animal products is made from the finest skins. For thousands of years, people have been tanning leather with tannic acid made from non animal products, such as oak and mimosa bark. The tannery still uses these environmentally friendly methods today, to ensure that the leather has a natural finish that ages beautifully with a patina that develops over time.
